BLUES AND ROYALS PEN - DENYA WOOD

The wood for these hand-turned pens come from the stables of the Queen's Royal Horse Guards, the 'Blues and Royals'.
The wood is called Denya (Cylicodiscus Gabunensis), a hardwood from Africa. It has extremely dense and durable properties making it an excellent choice for a busy stables. It is also used for bridges, ship and boat work, sea defences and docks.
The 'Blues and Royals' are part of the Household Cavalry and is a 1969 amalgamation of two cavalry regiments, the Royal Horse Guards (known as 'The Blues') and Royal Dragoons (known as the Royals'). The uniform of The Blues and Royals is very distinguishable by their dark blue tunics and a red plumes on their helmets.
Based at the Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge, London, the stables are actually split over two floor levels with the Blues and Royals on the upper level while the bottom level houses the Life Guard regiment who are also part of the Household Cavalry.
Prince William and Prince Harry both joined the the Blues and Royals in 2006
