Blue Mahoe Tree

The wood I use for these pens is Blue Mahoe, from a tree that was  brought down in a hurricane in the Dominican Republic in 1972.

Blue Mahoe is a flowering evergreen tree which can grow up to 25 metres and is the national tree of Jamaica.

It is seldom seen outside of its native Caribbean and is considered to be one of the most valuable woods of Jamaica and Cuba and in the past it was heavily harvested from its plantations .

When freshly milled, the heartwood is a lovely greyish blue hence it's name, but as it mellows with age it turns a greyish brown colour sometimes with streaks of purple,  blue and black.

The Blue Mahoe pen is available in five pen styles (see examples below).

Pens are supplied with a soft velvet drawstring pouch, history information sheet plus a signed certificate to accompany the pen.
